Job Overview
St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland, Texas, is seeking a passionate and dynamic Director of Youth Ministries to lead our young people as they grow in their faith. This pivotal role involves developing an engaging youth program, fostering spiritual growth of young people, and nurturing the next generation of faith leaders. As a key spiritual leader, you will coordinate ministry activities, mentor young people, and collaborate with church staff and volunteers to create a welcoming environment where youth can explore their faith, grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, and serve others. Your energetic approach and strong leadership will help cultivate a thriving youth community aligned with our mission: to Invite Connection, Inspire Transformation, Include Everyone, and Involve in Service.
Duties
Youth Ministries
- Oversee all youth programs and activities, including but not limited to: Sunday school, Mid-Week Bible study, Sunday evening fellowship, and trips
- Support and interact with youth in school/community activities (e.g. sports, music, etc.)
- Recruit and train volunteers; coordinate Youth Council
- Oversee youth-related budget and designated funds as well as fundraisers
- Promote youth ministries within congregation and community
- Provide support to families with youth
- Encourage integration of youth into the life of the church (worship attendance, choir participation, membership on committees)
- Participate in community leadership to the enhancement of St. Luke’s ministries
General
- Work with Lead Pastor regarding direction/vision of program
- Supervise volunteers related to youth ministries
- Ensure communication of ministry matters via emails, texts, social media, etc.
- Attend staff meetings
- Serve as ex-officio member of Administrative Board and other councils as assigned
Requirements
- Commitment to serving God as a disciple of Jesus Christ
- Passion and gifts for helping young people grow as disciples of Jesus Christ
- College Degree
- Ability to function as a team member and ministry leader
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to relate to all ages, especially youth
- Strong organizational skills and fiscal responsibility
- Strong moral character
- Flexibility and sense of humor as appropriate for working with youth
