Job Summary
The Junior Varsity Girls' Volleyball Coach is responsible for leading and developing the JV volleyball team while supporting the overall mission and goals of the Bishop Kearney volleyball program. The coach will plan and conduct practices, prepare student-athletes for competition, promote skill development, foster teamwork and sportsmanship, and communicate effectively with players, parents, and the Head Varsity Coach. The coach is expected to comply with all NYSPHSAA, Section V, and Bishop Kearney High School policies and expectations.
Job Specifications Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Previous volleyball coaching experience at the middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and techniques.
- Ability to teach and develop student-athletes in a positive and supportive environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, school personnel, and the athletic department.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Essential Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise practices and games to promote skill development, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Teach volleyball fundamentals and game strategies appropriate for the junior varsity level.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Varsity Coach to ensure consistency within the volleyball program.
- Assist in preparing student-athletes for advancement to the varsity program.
- Evaluate players and assist in determining team assignments and positions.
- Communicate practice schedules, expectations, and program information with student-athletes and parents.
- Enforce team rules and school policies while maintaining a positive team culture.
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility in coordination with the Athletic Director.
- Encourage academic success, leadership, and personal growth among student-athletes.
- Take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of student-athletes, equipment, and facilities, including preventing hazing and bullying.
- Assist with the care, inventory, and return of volleyball equipment and uniforms.
- Assist with setup and breakdown for home contests as needed.
- Attend coaches' meetings, league meetings, and school athletic events as requested.
- Represent Bishop Kearney in a professional manner at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
