Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary Physical Education/Health Teacher to join our team for a full-time position. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop a love for physical activity and an understanding of health and wellness. This role requires effective teaching strategies to engage students in physical education and health curriculum, fostering a positive and inclusive environment that promotes lifelong fitness and healthy habits.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state standards for physical education and health education.
- Teach various physical activities, including team and individual sports, fitness, and health-related topics, ensuring a well-rounded curriculum.
- Assess student performance and progress through regular evaluations, providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
- Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and respects diversity among students.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate health and wellness concepts across the curriculum.
- Organize and supervise extracurricular activities, such as sports teams and fitness clubs, to promote student involvement in physical activities.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress reports.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student performance and any concerns.
- Stay current with developments in physical education and health education, attending professional development workshops and conferences as needed.
- Promote a positive school culture that values physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification or license in Physical Education and Health for secondary education.
- Strong knowledge of physical education principles, health education, and fitness.
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational or coaching capacity is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students and foster a supportive learning environment.
- Ability to create inclusive lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to promoting student health and wellness both in and out of the classroom.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
