Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a key role in supporting patient care within MRC’s Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. The LPN is responsible for safe and accurate methadone dispensing, patient assessments, inventory reconciliation, and essential clinical support services. This position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to regulatory guidelines, and a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities & Duties
The nurse’s responsibilities include dispensing methadone using a computerized dosing system, ensuring accurate documentation, and maintaining full compliance with all state and federal regulations. The role requires maintaining a professional, organized nursing station; setting up medication each morning; recording methadone stock levels; documenting all medication changes; and coordinating with counselors as needed. Duties also include completing timely documentation in client charts, monitoring and recording TB skin tests, and managing client discharges and transfers in accordance with clinic procedures. Additional documentation and clinical tasks may be assigned as needed.
Methadone Dispensing & Inventory Management
- Set up the dosing pump, medication, and dispensing area each morning.
- Accurately dispense methadone doses and record all information in individual dosing sheets and cumulative daily records.
- Verify patient identity prior to dosing in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Perform daily methadone reconciliation, including measuring, documenting, and balancing inventory.
- Prepare and dispense take-home doses as authorized by the physician.
- Record and track methadone bottle stock and document all medication adjustments.
- Collect random drug screening samples in accordance with clinic protocols.
Patient Care & Coordination
- Respond to patient questions and conduct appropriate health-related inquiries in person or via phone.
- Coordinate with counselors and clinical staff as needed to support patient treatment plans.
- Monitor TB skin testing and document all results.
- Complete and document patient discharges and transfers according to clinic procedures.
Operational & Administrative Duties
- Open and close the clinic and clinic safe; arm and disarm the alarm system as required.
- Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of the dispensing area and equipment.
- Complete daily reports such as the Absentee Report and Daily Report, as well as monthly reports as needed.
- Uphold professional, ethical, and compassionate conduct at all times.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Valid Michigan license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and at least two (2) years of experience in an outpatient or clinical setting,
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or MAT programs.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow regulatory standards.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations.
- Dependability and punctuality, especially for early morning clinic hours.
