ComicBook.com is seeking a Social Media Producer who is obsessed with entertainment, understands internet culture, and knows how to turn breaking news into conversation. This is not a traditional social media role focused on scheduling posts or promoting a brand, it’s a key position in our editorial team for someone who thrives in a fast-moving news cycle and instinctively knows what fans want to talk about next (before they know it).
We’re looking for someone who treats social media as editorial, not marketing: who knows what story is about to break and how ComicBook.com can be first, fastest, and most valuable in that conversation. The ideal candidate is analytical, deeply plugged into geek entertainment and social trends, and uses both data and editorial instincts to identify opportunities that grow our audience.
Note to applicants: this role requires flexibility and urgency. Entertainment news doesn’t happen on a schedule, and neither do the best opportunities to engage our audience. This role requires someone who naturally keeps a pulse on what’s happening across movies, television, gaming, anime, comics, collectibles, and fandom culture, recognizing opportunities whenever they emerge and coordinating with our team. The ideal candidate does not wait to be assigned opportunities, they’ll recognize them, act on them, and consistently look for ways to help ComicBook.com lead the conversation.
Platform Focuses:
- Publish breaking news to Facebook quickly and accurately, maximizing audience engagement and referral traffic.
- Build ComicBook.com’s X presence into one of the premier destinations for real-time entertainment news, conversation, and breaking updates.
- Develop highly-engaging Instagram and TikTok content that is tailored to each platform and encourages discussion, sharing, and discovery.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor the entertainment landscape throughout the day to identify breaking news, emerging trends, viral moments, and audience conversations before competitors.
- Work closely with editors to ensure the biggest stories receive maximum visibility across every social platform in a timely manner - including follow-up posts and unique spinout social content.
- Use analytics, audience behavior, referral traffic, and platform trends to continually test topics, formats, posting cadence, timing, and content mix to optimize performance and identify opportunities.
- Create platform-specific content beyond sharing articles: creating informative and eye-catching graphics, editing full interviews into engaging social clips, and developing additional social templates that grow our visibility and stand out from the competition.
- Test, measure results, and continually optimize ComicBook.com’s social strategy using data and audience insights.
- Stay ahead of platform changes, emerging features, creator trends, and ever-changing best practices across social media.
Editorial Collaboration:
- Surface story ideas, trending topics, and audience interests that can help shape ComicBook.com’s editorial coverage.
- Collaborate with editorial and video teams to create impactful social-first content.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years managing social media for a digital publisher, news organization, entertainment brand, or similarly fast-paced content operation.
- Exceptional understanding of X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and how audiences consume content differently on each platform.
- Strong analytical skills with experience testing and measuring new strategies, plus interpreting engagement, audience, referral, and traffic data to improve performance.
- Excellent news judgment and understanding of our brand lanes to make quick editorial decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- Fluent in all things geek: gaming, comics, television, movies, anime, collectibles.
- Self-motivated and self-directed with the skill of spotting and leading trends before they peak.
- Comfortable working around major entertainment events, breaking news, evenings, weekends, or other high-interest moments when coverage demands it.
- Experience with analytics platforms such as Parse.ly, GA4, Buffer, Hootsuite, or similar tools.
- Experience producing or editing short-form social video is a significant plus.
- Experience with remote coverage of live entertainment events such as Comic-Con, gaming showcases (Nintendo Directs, State of Play), movie premieres, and similar moments.
