Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a Nurse Consultant to join our team in our Winston-Salem office. The Nurse Consultant provides high-level medical analysis and insight in support of legal matters, including the review, interpretation, and synthesis of complex medical, educational, employment, and military records into clear, accurate, and client-focused work product. This role partners closely with attorneys, clients, and internal teams to support case strategy, manage the medical components of matters, and deliver high-quality analysis efficiently and cost-effectively. The Nurse Consultant communicates clearly and professionally, demonstrates ownership and accountability for accuracy and deadlines, and meets or exceeds established quality, productivity and/or turnaround benchmarks while maintaining technical accuracy. This position is responsible for completing work with a high degree of integrity, ensuring appropriate work products that inform both defense and plaintiff strategy and support the best possible case outcomes. This role is performed utilizing firm-approved technology tools, including document management, analytics, and AI-assisted review platforms, to support efficient and accurate medical analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed medical record review and clinical analysis to identify key facts, issues, timelines, and themes relevant to the matter.
- Prepare high-quality client deliverables, which may include medical case and billing summaries, analytical and scientific research memoranda, deposition outlines/notebooks, witness materials, and organized record sets. Complete all other deliverables and duties as assigned.
- Consistently evaluate all work products to assess relevance, inconsistencies, causation, standards of care, and damages; document clinical rationale and flagged issues clearly within deliverables and use discretion to escalate complex issues or risk areas to attorneys or management as appropriate.
- Manage the medical aspects of assigned cases, including scope, priorities, deadlines, and deliverable sequencing.
- Maintain accurate and timely time entries, utilize correct phraseology, and apply appropriate phase and task codes in strict accordance with internal and client guidelines.
Requirements:
Minimum of four 4 years of hospital-based clinical experience. Prior experience as a nurse consultant, legal nurse consultant, paralegal, or in a law firm or litigation support environment is preferred. Comparable combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Active RN license in good standing in the state of NC.

- Experience collaborating with peers to balance workloads and provide case coverage during absences to meet client deadlines.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize large volumes of complex medical information into clear, accurate written work product.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions, policies, and procedures; write reports and business correspondence; and effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, management, attorneys, and clients.
- Strong time-management and prioritization skills, including comfort working with ambiguity and deadline pressure in a fast-paced, billable environment.
- Demonstrate alignment with management decisions through consistent behavior and written and verbal communications.
- Provide guidance, training, and/or informal mentoring to less experienced team members; participate in special projects and process-improvement initiatives as needed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new platforms and technologies.
