Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated VPK Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood education team. In this vital role, you will support the lead teacher in creating a nurturing, engaging, and educational environment for young learners. Duties
- Assist lead teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with early childhood education standards, including literacy, math, and social-emotional development
- Support classroom management by maintaining a positive, structured environment that encourages children's independence and cooperation
- Help facilitate activities that promote childhood development, including Highscope or other curriculum approaches, tailored to individual needs
- Engage with children during worktime, circle time, and learning activities to foster communication skills and social interaction
- Assist in documenting children's progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers for ongoing assessment and curriculum adjustments
- Support classroom organization by preparing materials, setting up learning stations, and maintaining a clean and safe environment
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop inclusive strategies for children with disabilities or special needs, including those with autism or other developmental challenges
Requirements
- Prior experience working with young children in daycare, preschool, or early childhood education settings
- Knowledge of childhood development principles, behavior management techniques, and classroom management strategies
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and team members
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while demonstrating flexibility and initiative
- Certification or coursework in early childhood education, or related fields is advantageous
- Passion for working with children and supporting their growth through engaging activities and compassionate care
- Must be willing to have required DCF background check
