Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable, customer-focused Front Counter Sales & Store Associate to join our Hondo location. This role is an important part of the customer experience and daily store operations, serving farmers, ranchers, livestock owners, and community members who rely on Lyssy & Eckel for feed, animal health products, hardware, and agricultural supplies.
As a Front Counter Sales & Store Associate, you will assist customers at the counter, process payments, help manage store inventory, communicate with vendors, and support the overall organization and cleanliness of the store.
This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with people, can stay patient and professional during busy or challenging customer interactions, and takes pride in keeping store operations accurate, organized, and customer-ready.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service: Greet and assist customers at the front counter with professionalism, patience, and a helpful attitude. Answer questions, direct customers to the right products, and provide a positive customer experience.
Cash Handling and Transactions: Accurately process cash, checks, credit cards, and charge account transactions. Count back change correctly and maintain accuracy when handling customer payments.
Store Orders and Vendor Communication: Assist with ordering store products, including animal health items, hardware, and other retail supplies. Communicate with vendors, help manage purchase orders, and maintain positive vendor relationships.
Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, track low-stock items, and help build weekly orders to ensure the store remains properly stocked.
Computer and Recordkeeping: Use basic computer systems, Excel, and store records to help track inventory, orders, customer information, and daily store activity.
Store Appearance and Housekeeping: Help maintain a clean, organized, and professional store environment. Duties may include sweeping, mopping, cleaning shelves, straightening product displays, and keeping the counter area orderly.
Team Support: Work closely with store leadership and other team members to keep daily operations running smoothly and efficiently.
Shift & Hours
This is a full-time position with a regular Monday-Saturday schedule.
· Monday-Friday: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
· Saturday: 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM
· Average schedule is approximately 55 hours per week
· Exact hours may vary slightly based on business needs, customer traffic, and operational demands
Qualifications
· Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of customers
· Excellent communication skills
· Cash handling experience preferred
· Ability to accurately process cash, checks, credit cards, and charge account transactions
· Basic computer literacy required
· Basic Excel knowledge preferred
· Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks during busy periods
· Ability to work with vendors and assist with purchase orders and product ordering
· Strong attention to detail for inventory tracking, payments, and customer accounts
· Dependable attendance and punctuality
· Prior experience in retail, agriculture, feed, hardware, animal health, or customer service is helpful but not required
· Bilingual ability is a plus
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, assist with light store duties, and perform basic housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning shelves, and organizing product areas.
This role may require occasional lifting, carrying, stocking, or moving of store products and supplies.
