Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms with dental instruments, materials, and supplies, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use according to infection prevention management procedures.
- Assist Dr Perkins during pediatric dental procedures such as X-ray imaging, oral surgery, endodontics, and general dentistry treatments using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Take dental X-rays using digital systems, ensuring proper patient positioning and safety protocols are followed in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collect vital signs and medical history information from young patients while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures and manage infection control standards to prevent cross-contamination.
- Support the dental receptionist by managing patient flow, updating medical records in EMR systems, and assisting with medical documentation and coding as needed.
- Educate children and their guardians on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and preventive dentistry strategies to promote lifelong oral health.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a pediatric dentistry or general dentistry setting is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and clinical procedures including X-ray techniques and dental instrument processing. This, of course, can be taught on the job.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention management, aseptic technique, dental sterilization procedures, and healthcare infection control standards.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining a friendly demeanor that puts young patients at ease.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in managing medical records and documentation.
- Certification in radiography or X-ray certification required; additional certifications in pediatric dentistry or related fields are advantageous.
