Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse to join our dynamic maternity care team. In this vital role, you will provide expert nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for mothers and their newborns. Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess maternal and fetal vital signs continuously during labor and delivery using advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic and Cerner.
- Administer medications including pain management options like epidurals and assist with procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes following aseptic techniques.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with hospital protocols and NCQA standards.
- Provide patient education on labor progression, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for medical documentation.
- Manage emergency situations including acute pain management, airway management, hemorrhage control, and trauma response within a Level I or Level II trauma center environment.
- Support triage assessments for incoming patients in urgent care or emergency room settings; coordinate transfers for complex cases requiring ICU or PICU level care.
- Assist with postpartum recovery including neonatal assessments, infant feeding support, and discharge planning while working with individuals with developmental disabilities or special needs when applicable.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of obstetric nursing practices including labor support, delivery techniques, and postpartum care.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Skilled in performing IV infusion, venipuncture (phlebotomy), suturing, catheterization (including Foley catheters), tube feeding management, and sterile processing techniques.
- Experience with high-acuity environments such as ICU or trauma centers; familiarity with Level I/II trauma center protocols is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of physiology related to pregnancy, labor processes, neonatal assessment (including neonatal ventilator use), and infant care procedures.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams providing medical-surgical nursing care across inpatient units including labor & delivery units, nursery wards, or outpatient clinics.
- Knowledge of infectious disease control standards and infection prevention practices in obstetric settings. Pay: $3,200.00 - $3,400.00 per week
