Title: Toolmaker
Hours: Full time Shift: N/A
Reports to: President and General Manager
General Duties: Toolmaker is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the company’s tools, the manufacturing of spare and replacement parts for these tools and the manufacturing of jigs and fixtures to support manufacturing operations. The Toolmaker shall also perform tasks to lessen hardship and improve productivity.
Essential Functions: Jobs assigned to the Toolmaker may vary from day to day based on the needs of the company. Depending on the job assigned, the Toolmaker may be responsible for any or all of the following:
- Disassembling, cleaning and reassembling the company’s tools properly.
- Using CNC or manual mills, lathes and grinders to manufacture spare and replacement parts for the company’s production molds.
- Designing and manufacturing jigs and fixtures to support tool room and manufacturing operations.
- Repairing damaged tools.
- Modifying existing tools to improve productivity and lessen hardship.
- Using calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gages, gage blocks, gage pins, comparators, and Keyence to measure parts, tool components, part jigs, fixtures, and auxiliary equipment.
- Repairing and maintaining machine tools and tool room equipment.
- Diagnosing problems on the bench and at the press.
- Use and understanding of tool prints, part prints, hand sketches, and cad files to perform job.
- Use of all necessary equipment to order and purchase replacement parts and supplies.
- Safe use of fork lifts, pallet jacks and lift trucks to move and transport tools, tooling, machinery and auxiliary equipment.
- Safe use of cranes, a-frames, chains, slings, eye bolts, hoist rings, and magnets to move, arrange and transport molds, tooling, machinery and auxiliary equipment.
- Keep the Tool Room and other areas of the plant clean and orderly.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
The above represents the core functions for which the Toolmaker will primarily be held accountable. Toolmakers, as are all employees are responsible for:
- Maintaining a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a professional, cooperative manner with customers, vendors, all co-workers including subordinates, peers, supervisors, and managers.
- Adhering to and maintaining all ISO procedures related to the job, all work instructions, as well as adhering to all company policies, rules, and regulations.
Pending the production schedule and staffing, Toolmakers may be requested to perform other job description functions or special projects for which they are qualified.
Minimum Requirements
- Must possess ability to perform all necessary communication requirements in English.
- Computer literate, ability to use CAD files, MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook
- Use of Mastercam, Mastercam Wire, SolidWorks or other machine or design software.
- Advanced math skills including basic skills, geometry and trigonometry.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Toolmaker, Moldmaker, Model Maker apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
Supervisory Responsibility: Toolroom Apprentice

- Lift or exert up to 35 pounds of force to move objects occasionally

Near acuity and accommodation are required for working in detail close enough to accomplish the necessary results.
