Preschool Aftercare Teacher
The Preschool Aftercare Teacher supports the daily operation of the preschool’s aftercare program by providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children. This position is responsible for supervising children, leading age-appropriate activities, assisting with afternoon routines and maintaining positive communication with children, families and staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide attentive supervision and care for preschool-aged children throughout the aftercare program.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, including games, crafts, stories, music and outdoor play.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized classroom and play environment.
- Assist children with afternoon routines, including snacks, handwashing, bathroom needs and preparing for dismissal.
- Encourage positive social interactions and model respectful, age-appropriate behavior.
- Support smooth transitions between classrooms, activities and outdoor areas.
- Maintain accurate attendance and ensure each child is released only to an authorized adult.
- Greet families warmly and communicate relevant information about their child’s afternoon.
- Follow all preschool, health, safety, security and licensing policies and procedures.
- Respond appropriately to minor injuries, behavioral concerns and other classroom needs.
- Promptly report any concerns, incidents or unusual circumstances to the ECC Director or designated administrator.
- Prepare materials and assist with the daily setup and cleanup of the aftercare space.
- Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators and other aftercare staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Early Childhood Center.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
- Ability to interact warmly and professionally with children, families and staff.
- Patient, dependable and able to manage a group of young children.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
- Strong communication, organization and judgment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must meet all applicable background screening, licensing and training requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel and sit on the floor for periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry and move classroom materials and equipment.
- Ability to occasionally lift or assist young children.
Work Environment:
This position works primarily in preschool classrooms and outdoor play areas and requires active engagement with children throughout the afternoon. The employee may be exposed to varying noise levels and changing weather conditions during outdoor activities.
