Counter Person / BartenderPosition Summary
The Counter Person / Bartender is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to members and guests while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the clubhouse. This position combines front counter responsibilities, retail sales, range support, and bartending duties to create a welcoming experience for everyone visiting Winchester Gun Club.
Essential Responsibilities:
Customer Service
- Welcome members and guests in a friendly, professional manner.
- Answer questions about club facilities, memberships, leagues, events, and registered shoots.
- Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally or refer them to management when necessary.
Counter Operations
- Process memberships, renewals, and daily shooting fees.
- Check in shooters and assign squads.
- Register participants for leagues, tournaments, and NSCA events.
- Rent firearms according to club policies and complete all required documentation.
- Sell ammunition, targets, eye and ear protection, apparel, gift cards, and other merchandise.
- Operate the Clover Point-of-Sale system accurately.
- Balance cash drawer and complete end-of-shift procedures.
- Answer telephone calls and respond to customer inquiries.
Sporting Operations
- Issue sporting clays cards and explain use of the Long Range target system.
- Assist customers with target cards, scorecards, and basic course information.
- Communicate with outside staff regarding target machine issues or customer needs.
- Help maintain smooth traffic flow for trap, skeet, sporting clays, and 5-Stand activities.
Bartending
- Prepare and serve beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks, and other beverages.
- Verify identification and comply with all Wisconsin alcohol laws.
- Follow club recipes and pour standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar.
- Monitor guest alcohol consumption and refuse service when appropriate.
- Process beverage sales accurately through the POS system.
Food Service
- Prepare and serve pizzas and other menu items according to club standards.
- Follow proper food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Monitor food inventory and notify management when supplies are low.
- Keep kitchen and food preparation areas clean.
Facility Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of the clubhouse, bar, dining area, restrooms, and counter.
- Restock coolers, merchandise, snacks, and supplies.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures.
- Empty trash and maintain a clean, welcoming environment.
- Support special events, banquets, leagues, and registered shoots as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old to serve alcohol.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Bartending experience is helpful but not required; training provided.
- Basic computer and cash handling skills.
- Ability to learn firearm rental procedures and club operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Ability to remain calm during busy periods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift up to 40 pounds.
- Stock coolers, shelves, and inventory.
- Bend, reach, and carry supplies throughout the shift.
- Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as scheduled.
Work Environment
Employees work in a customer-focused environment that includes a bar, retail counter, kitchen, and shooting sports facility. Safety, professionalism, and outstanding customer service are expected at all times.
