Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sinker EDM Machinist to join our precision aerospace manufacturing team in Southington, CT. The ideal candidate will have 3–5+ years of sinker EDM experience and the ability to set up, program, operate, and troubleshoot CNC sinker EDM equipment.
You will manufacture complex, close-tolerance aerospace components and tooling while working with difficult-to-machine materials such as Inconel, titanium, hardened steels, carbide, and nickel-based superalloys.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC sinker EDM machines.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and work instructions.
- Develop, edit, and optimize EDM programs and machining parameters.
- Select, prepare, and set up electrodes, tooling, and workholding.
- Perform machine alignment, work offsets, electrode offsets, and part positioning.
- Optimize EDM settings including amperage, pulse duration, flushing, and burn conditions.
- Machine complex cavities, pockets, slots, contours, and intricate geometries.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections.
- Use GD&T and precision measuring equipment to verify part dimensions.
- Troubleshoot electrode wear, arcing, flushing, surface finish, and dimensional issues.
- Make process adjustments to improve quality, cycle time, and productivity.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection documentation.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Programming, and Production teams.
- Follow all applicable aerospace quality, safety, and customer requirements.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of Sinker EDM experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
- Experience with CNC programming and editing.
- Knowledge of EDM controls and machining parameters.
- Experience with electrodes, electrode wear compensation, and flushing techniques.
- Experience machining tight-tolerance and exotic materials.
- Ability to use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges, optical comparators, and/or CMMs.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Esprit, or similar CAD/CAM software.
- Experience in an AS9100 or NADCAP-certified aerospace environment.
- Knowledge of AS9102/FAI, SPC, traceability, and configuration control.
- Experience manufacturing flight-critical, structural, engine, or complex precision components.
- Technical or vocational training in CNC Machining, EDM, Tool & Die, or Manufacturing Technology.
