ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Galt Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for
Recreation Coordinator.
The ideal candidate will bring a positive, "can-do" attitude and be equally comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Strong leadership skills are highly desirable. Flexibility is essential, as the position primarily requires availability on weeknights and weekends.

Base Pay:
Effective July 1, 2027: $25.92 - $31.82
ADDITIONAL PAY (UPON ASSIGNMENT AND ELIGIBILITY):

Longevity Pay - beginning at 10 years of service, 5%; 15 years of service, 7.5%.

Bilingual Pay - $100 per month.

Medical-in-lieu - Employees who waive the City's medical coverage shall receive $200 per month for employee only, $350 per month for employee plus one, and $500 per month for family.

Incentives- up to 2.5% - 10%

On Call Pay- Two hours per day and four hours per holiday (depends on classification).

Standby Pay- Two hours for each standby shift of 8 hours or less (depends on classification).
BENEFITS:-

Holiday Pay - 14 holidays; thirteen (13) paid holidays and one (1) floating holiday. Thirteen (13) fixed holidays observed: New Year’s Day, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Vacation Leave- 80 hours per year; after 4 years- 120 hours; after 10 years- 160 hours; after 15 years- 200 hours, and after 22 years- 240 hours.

Vacation Credit - Those with 4+ years of prior public agency experience may request to accrue at a rate of 120 hours.

Vacation Cash Out- Cash out up to forty (40) hours of vacation per year.

Sick Leave- 8 hours per month. Remaining balances roll over with no maximum cap.

Health Insurance- City pays a generous portion of the CalPERS medical premium, including 100% for Employee+One for 5 of the health plans. City pays 100% for dental and vision premiums.

Life Insurance- City-paid $50,000 policy and $1,500 policy for dependents.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, plans, organizes, coordinates, and provides direction and oversight of concession stands and one or more indoor and/or outdoor recreation activities at a recreation facility, park, or athletic field; implements and evaluates the operations and scheduling of sports leagues for adults and youth; provides general supervision to part-time recreation leaders, sports officials, scorekeepers, and coaches; implements tournaments, leagues, clinics, and tryouts; provides administrative support and program assistance to the Recreation Supervisor; and performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor. Exercises technical and functional supervision of staff, contractors, and volunteers.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey level class in the recreation services series that provides program coordination, administrative, and/or day-to-day operational responsibilities. Responsibilities may include the organization of various team sports planning and implementing recreational activities in other areas such as outdoor education, cultural, aquatics, life enrichment, athletic classes, special events, and excursions for a wide variety of age groups and special populations. Responsibilities involve year-round coordination of participant registration and team assignment, facility and activity scheduling, confirmation of officials and scorekeepers, facility preparation and supervision of part-time recreation staff.
This class is distinguished from Recreation Supervisor in that the latter is the full supervisory-level class and has overall program, budgetary, and administrative responsibility for multiple recreation activities and facilities or a comprehensive recreational program.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to an associate degree with major course work in recreation administration, leisure services, physical education, or a related field (graduation from an accredited four-year college or university preferred) and two years of experience coordinating recreation or group activities.
Licenses and Certifications:-
Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Possession of First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant CPR with AED certification from an accredited agency within probationary period.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and/or recreational facility setting and use standard office and/or recreation equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed material and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Must possess the physical stamina to lift and move tables and chairs, arrange facilities for community events and/or meetings. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in recreational activities; and push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background investigation, including fingerprinting. May be required to work a varied schedule of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays at a variety of City facilities.
