Clinical Director
Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Director to lead and oversee clinical operations within our substance use disorder and mental health treatment program in Texas. This critical leadership role is responsible for the delivery, quality, and oversight of behavioral health and addiction treatment services while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and Texas state regulations, evidence-based treatment standards, and accreditation requirements, including The Joint Commission (JCAHO).
The Clinical Director will provide strategic and operational leadership to multidisciplinary clinical teams, including licensed counselors, therapists, case managers, and medical staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across all levels of treatment. Responsibilities include overseeing clinical programming, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting utilization review processes, ensuring documentation integrity, and promoting positive patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment, strong leadership abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of Texas healthcare regulations and accreditation standards. This role requires a commitment to fostering a collaborative, trauma informed environment that supports recovery, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of clinical policies, procedures, and treatment protocols in accordance with Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) requirements, federal regulations, and Joint Commission standards.
- Oversee daily clinical operations to ensure the effective delivery of behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment services.
- Provide clinical supervision and leadership to licensed clinicians, counselors, and support staff.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Texas and federal laws, including confidentiality requirements under HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Manage quality assurance, performance improvement, and utilization review initiatives to optimize patient outcomes and operational effectiveness.
- Monitor clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance clinical services and patient care.
- Support staff development through coaching, training, and professional growth opportunities.
- Serve as the primary clinical liaison with regulatory agencies, accreditation organizations, referral sources, and community partners.
- Oversee clinical programming to ensure services remain evidence-based, trauma-informed, and aligned with best practices in behavioral healthcare.
- Maintain responsibility for clinical staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Qualifications
- Current Texas licensure as an LCDC, LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist, or other qualified behavioral health professional recognized by the State of Texas.
- Minimum of three (3) years of leadership or supervisory experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder treatment.
- Strong knowledge of Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) regulations governing substance use disorder treatment facilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of Joint Commission (JCAHO) accreditation standards.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and Texas patient confidentiality requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary clinical teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field.
- Independent clinical licensure in Texas (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist).
- Experience in outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), or residential substance use disorder treatment settings.
- Experience with utilization review, managed care, and insurance authorization processes.
- CCS, LCDC, or advanced addiction treatment certifications.
- Experience overseeing Joint Commission surveys and regulatory audits.
License/Certification Requirements
- Texas behavioral health licensure required.
- LCDC preferred for candidates overseeing substance use disorder treatment services.
- Independent clinical licensure (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Psychologist) strongly preferred.
Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
