Job Summary
Northwest Health - Porter is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Emergency Department (ED) team in Valparaiso, IN.
As a night shift Emergency Room Nurse, you will deliver compassionate, patient-centered care using the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will collaborate with a cohesive healthcare team to provide high-quality emergency medical care, manage clinical protocols, and maintain a supportive environment for patients and their families.

Schedule & Location
- Schedule: Full-Time, Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | 36 hours per week

Essential Functions
- Patient Care Delivery: Coordinate and provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in accordance with organizational policies, established protocols, and the nursing process.
- Assessment & Documentation: Perform thorough, accurate patient assessments, document findings promptly in the EMR, and report condition changes to appropriate care team members.
- Emergency Response: Respond swiftly to medical emergencies and participate in life-saving interventions, including CPR and code team activities.
- Medication Administration: Safely administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and maintain strict standards of practice documentation.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Assist physicians during procedures within your scope of practice and collaborate with the care team to develop and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Patient Advocacy & Education: Advocate for patient rights and needs while providing comprehensive education to patients and families regarding conditions, care plans, and post-discharge instructions.
- Safety & Equipment Operation: Monitor and operate emergency medical equipment (IV pumps, cardiac monitors, ventilators) while strictly adhering to infection control protocols and National Patient Safety Goals.
- Quality & Compliance: Participate in chart reviews, clinical audits, and performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and support regulatory standards.
- Growth & Professionalism: Maintain regular, reliable attendance and engage in continuous professional development to stay current on nursing standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Nursing experience in an Acute Care Emergency Department (ED / ER) is required
Education & Licensure:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Compact State Licensure required.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) – Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong foundational knowledge of the nursing process and acute emergency care.
- Proficiency in patient assessment, EMR documentation, and safe medication administration.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively within a fast-paced team environment.
- Strong organizational skills, sharp attention to detail, and sound clinical decision-making.
- Solid understanding of infection control protocols, safety standards, and quality improvement processes.
