What you'll do
As our Electrical Tester, you are the ultimate gatekeeper of product safety and functionality. You will take full ownership of our testing environment, executing high-voltage procedures and functional checks to ensure every switchboard is completely bulletproof before it leaves the factory floor.
Where you'll work
This role will be based at our Long Beach facility as part of the production team.
Responsibilities
- Master the Testing Environment: Secure the test area, install and activate red safety lights, and meticulously verify that all circuit breakers, control fused disconnects, fuses, and miniature circuit breakers are fully open before testing.
- Execute Ground Bond Testing: Follow strict safety and sequential steps—ensure the tester is unplugged before setup, close main/feeder breakers, connect live leads from the ground bus to the ground chassis, and accurately record current readings.
- Run Hi-Pot Testing: Own the complete Dielectric Voltage Withstand sequence (unplugging the set, separating ground-neutral bonding jumpers, closing breakers, opening fuses/SPDs, and reinstalling disconnects post-test).
- Verify System Specs: Confirm that all breaker ratings, control power components, and lug sizes perfectly match the electrical single-line diagram (SLD) and wiring schematics.
- Run Live Functionality Tests: Safely connect the 480VAC utility source to thoroughly test and validate the real-world functionality of each and every component in the system.
- Finalize Safety Labeling: Apply all required warning stickers and safety labels to the switchboard equipment immediately following successful test completion.
Requirements
- Safety & Detail-Obsessed: You strictly follow exact step-by-step procedures. You never cut corners when handling high voltage.
- You have a basic electrical engineering education background or direct experience with UL891 switchboard standards
- Schematic Fluent: You read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs) and wiring schematics effortlessly.
- You are self-motivated, work exceptionally well without supervision, and are willing to put in occasional overtime to hit critical shipping deadlines.
- Experienced: You bring at least 1 year of hands-on experience testing switchboards or switchgear systems.
- An Extreme Owner: You are self-motivated, manage the testing bay with high authority, and refuse to let defective products pass your station.
