JOB TITLE: Kitchen Assistant/Dietary Aide (Off Site Meal Prep)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Senior Center Manager/Satellite Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: CHCS Senior Centers
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
Primary Purpose of Job
The primary purpose of the position is to assist with meal service at a CHCS senior community center where meals have been prepared off site and delivered.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist with preparation including, but not limited to, measuring and weighing ingredients, washing and cleaning fruits and vegetables, chopping, cutting and slicing food, and combining specific items as identified by the kitchen manager.[HH1]
- Serve food according to menu and with attention to specified portions. Provide assistance to participants as needed.
- Clean kitchen and dining areas, equipment, steam tables, dishes, utensils, etc.
- Assist with receiving food deliveries and supplies. Monitor temperatures and compliance with other food safety standards.
- Attend training as required by CHCS and all regulatory and funding bodies.
- Participate in staff meetings and supervision.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience/Abilities
- Experience in food service and ability to follow safe food handling practices. ServSafe certified, or able to meet certification requirements within a specified timeframe (e.g., 6 months of hire).
- Is flexible, hospitable, able to work independently and to follow directions consistently.

Demonstrated adherence to timeliness and attendance standards.
Physical Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices)
- Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during work hours.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Kitchen – must be comfortable using equipment and appliances, and with exposure to associated risks (e.g., heat, cooking odors, etc.)
- Must work respectfully and effectively with participants, personnel, and center visitors under a variety of circumstances and conditions.
- Must be able to work effectively with older adults in a community setting, respectful of their dignity and right to self-determination.
- Work within the senior centers is subject to frequent interruptions. Most tasks are routine and well-defined, but with day-to-day variation.
Language

For some Centers, fluency in English and languages other than English may be required or preferred.
