Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Customer Registration Representative is responsible for the accurate and timely registration of patients for the various clinical and specialty departments. Conducts financial triage and processing of patient’s medical and/or dental insurance information. Responsible for maintaining accurate patient demographics and updating data in patient’s chart and in the computer. Observes customer service standards in dealing with people in person or on the telephone. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, patient-focused professional who understands that a positive healthcare experience begins with feeling welcomed, heard, and respected. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to balance accuracy with efficiency, and motivated by the opportunity to help patients access the care and resources they need.
Essential duties include the following:
Welcome & Support Our Patients
- Welcome patients warmly and assist them with the registration process, both in person and by telephone.
- Help patients complete required forms and answer questions about the registration process and available services.
- Provide professional, culturally sensitive customer service to patients and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Listen to patient concerns and help resolve issues or connect patients with the appropriate department or supervisor.
Make Access to Care Easier
- Register patients efficiently and accurately while helping minimize wait times.
- Review and update patient demographics and ensure information in the electronic medical record and practice management system is complete and accurate.
- Learn about Eisner Health's medical, dental, behavioral health, specialty, and support services so you can provide patients with accurate information and help connect them to appropriate resources.
- Promote awareness of Center programs and services that may benefit patients and families.
Support Insurance & Financial Access
- Screen patients for medical and/or dental insurance coverage and eligibility for applicable state, county, and privately funded programs.
- Conduct financial triage and accurately process insurance and patient information.
- Collect, document, balance, and record patient payments and provide receipts.
- Maintain accuracy and confidentiality when handling sensitive patient and financial information.
Be a Trusted Team Member
- Work collaboratively with clinical, administrative, and support teams to provide a seamless patient experience.
- Provide coverage and support for coworkers as needed.
- Participate in Customer Service activities and initiatives throughout the Center.
- Complete required training, including Customer Service and Cultural Sensitivity training.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by your supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Excellent verbal and telephone communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn electronic medical/practice management and telephone systems within the first month of employment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of medical clerical or front-office experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Experience working with medical and/or dental insurance.
- Familiarity with and/or willingness to learn insurance eligibility, financial screening, or patient registration.
