Director of Strategy
The New Mexico Finance Authority (NMFA) in Santa Fe is seeking qualified candidates for a Director of Strategy position that will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Director of Strategy is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping, executing and communicating NMFA’s long‑term organizational vision. This position leads strategic planning, drives innovation, supports policy analysis, and ensures cross-functional alignment. The Director of Strategy translates vision into actionable plans; evaluates organizational and market trends; and ensures that strategies are data‑driven, community‑centered, and aligned with statewide priorities.
The Director of Strategy leads NMFA’s enterprise-wide communications strategy, including public relations, public affairs, media relations, brand and reputation management, legislative communications support, and external outreach, and manages the communications and policy budget in support of these functions.
This role develops and executes integrated communications plans that advance NMFA’s mission, strengthen public understanding of its programs and impact, and ensure consistent, accurate, and effective messaging across all external platforms. Serving as NMFA’s primary media liaison and crisis communications lead, the Director of Strategy provides strategic counsel to the CEO and senior leadership and exercises independent judgment in managing high-visibility, time-sensitive, and reputationally significant communications matters.
NMFA is a government instrumentality whose mission is to be New Mexico’s partner in building economic prosperity and stronger communities. The ideal candidate will possess 10 or more years of experience in strategy, finance, lending, public policy, communications, or marketing. Strong analytical and strategic planning skills with ability to translate complex data into recommendation are required. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills along with demonstrated leadership and adaptability in complex environments is highly desirable.
The ability to collaborate across departments to implement strategic initiatives effectively is required. A bachelor’s degree is required with an advanced degree (MA/MS/MBA) strongly preferred. Experience in public finance, capital programs, or community development is strongly preferred.
