Position Summary
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all BSF Seafood employees, including salaried and hourly workers. This role serves as the operational owner of payroll and, over time, will expand into HCM system administration and compensation support. Reports directly to the Chief People Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- Process weekly payroll for all employee classifications accurately and on time
- Audit timekeeping data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure proper approvals prior to each payroll run
- Process off-cycle payrolls, manual checks, and adjustments as needed
- Manage garnishments, levies, and other payroll deductions in compliance with applicable law
- Coordinate with HR and managers on leave pay, shift differentials, and incentive payouts
Tax & Compliance
- Ensure accurate federal, state, and local payroll tax withholding and timely remittance
- Prepare and distribute W-2s and other year-end tax documents
- Maintain compliance with wage and hour laws including overtime, minimum wage, and exempt classifications
- Support payroll-related audits and respond to agency inquiries
HCM System Administration
- Serve as a key contributor to the HCM system implementation, with a focus on payroll module configuration and testing
- Own ongoing payroll system administration including employee record maintenance, pay code setup, and system updates
- Partner with the HR Generalist on HRIS data integrity and cross-functional system workflows
Retirement & Special Payouts
- Administer the company's retirement payout process in coordination with the CPO, ensuring accuracy, documentation, and consistency
- Process retirement-related distributions and coordinate with the 401k administrator as needed
- Maintain records for employees approaching retirement eligibility
Reporting & Analytics
- Generate payroll reports for finance, HR, and leadership as requested
- Support compensation benchmarking and analysis efforts in partnership with the CPO
- Maintain accurate payroll records in compliance with record retention requirements
Qualifications
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a mid-size organization with a mixed workforce
- Working knowledge of payroll tax law and wage and hour compliance
- Experience with HRIS or payroll systems required; UKG or similar platform experience a plus
- High attention to detail and comfort handling confidential information
- FPC or CPP certification preferred or in progress
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
