Senior Party Chief / Survey Crew Chief
Location: Polk County, Florida (Travel throughout Central Florida)

About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Senior Party Chief to join our growing survey department. The ideal candidate is a motivated, dependable professional capable of working independently while leading a survey crew on a variety of projects throughout Central Florida.
This position performs and oversees all aspects of field surveying, including boundary, topographic, construction layout, utility, as-built, ALTA/NSPS, and control surveys. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to solve problems in the field while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise daily survey field operations.
- Perform construction layout for commercial, residential, roadway, utility, and site development projects.
- Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, as-built, route, and control surveys.
- Operate GPS receivers, robotic total stations, digital levels, and data collectors.
- Read and interpret construction plans, plats, legal descriptions, deeds, easements, and engineering drawings.
- Establish horizontal and vertical control.
- Verify survey calculations and perform quality control before submitting data to the office.
- Collect complete and accurate field data for processing.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors.
- Train and mentor Instrument Operators and junior crew members.
- Maintain survey equipment, vehicles, and field supplies.
- Follow company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Represent the company professionally on all job sites.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of land surveying experience.
- Minimum 3 years as a Party Chief or Crew Chief preferred.
- Experience performing:
- Construction staking/layout
- Boundary surveys
- Topographic surveys
- ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
- As-Built Surveys
- Utility Layout
- GPS Control Surveys
- Strong understanding of survey mathematics and field procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience using Trimble, Leica, Topcon, or similar survey equipment.
- Experience with robotic total stations, RTK GPS, and data collectors.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
- Familiarity with Florida survey standards and construction practices.
- Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in civil construction.
- Utility construction layout experience (water, sewer, storm).
- FDOT surveying experience.
- Experience with machine control and drone surveying is a plus.
- Knowledge of Florida boundary law and survey procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Work outdoors year-round in Florida weather.
- Walk several miles daily over rough terrain and active construction sites.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, climb, kneel, and work around heavy equipment.
