At UConn Health, this class is accountable for performing tasks as a specialist responsible for all aspects of project control, budget control, planning and workflow analysis, and minor project management. This position will work in Facilities Development & Operations in Farmington, CT
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the limited supervision of an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May lead lower-level employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Reviews project requests and work orders for assignment to renovation or construction;
Reviews project designs and construction;
Supports Project Managers/Supervisors on larger renovation and construction projects;
Determines project feasibility and pre-design program direction;
Performs conceptual project estimates; obtains quotes from contractors;
Participates in contract negotiations and selection;
Makes recommendations on contractors, tasks or in-house labor pools; coordinates contractors and in-house support;
May act as project contractor; oversees contractor's development of project pert charts and schedules;
Monitors and reports on project status, schedules, master lists, priorities, workload and requests or inquiries;
Coordinates involvement with outside departments for permitting, public safety, telecommunications, and code related issues;
Responsible for sufficient project control techniques;
Prepares close-out documentation; updates inventory asset and preventative maintenance programs;
Consolidates information from various project operations;
Oversees effective upkeep of master project file system; administers day-to-day workflow and automated systems application within department;
Performs related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of health care codes and regulations;
Knowledge of building systems and construction;
Knowledge of finance and budget process;
Considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable interpersonal skills;
Skill in building and project scheduling, design specifications, estimation of work and materials;
Organizational skills;
Computer skills;
Ability to understand architectural designs to include electrical, HVAC, plumbing design
Ability to resolve construction problems or interpretation of designs for contractors;
Ability to use automated systems as they relate to project planning and control.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Six (6) years' experience in construction management, design, or other project control related functions.
SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED:
Bachelor's degree in construction management or related area and two (2) years' experience in construction management, design or other project control related function.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) or more years' experience in health care construction management and knowledge of Joint Commission and DPH requirements.
SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours per week, primarily Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, holidays are required as scheduled, may be required to work other shifts including weekends to accommodate departmental or project needs, 30-minute unpaid meal break.
