The Role: Emergency Veterinary Assistant/Technician
As an ER team member, you’ll be the vital link that provides rapid, skilled nursing care and technical support in a fast-paced setting, working with critical patients, obtaining diagnostics, administering treatments, monitoring anesthesia, and helping to elevate the client experience—all while ensuring patient stability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain thorough patient histories and complete all approval paperwork
- Assess patient stability and recognize when immediate intervention is required
- Utilize EzyVet and Vet Radar systems and follow MVSES triage/discharge, patient treatment, and diagnostic requests protocols.
- Safety retrain and handle patients for procedures and treatments
- Obtain accurate vitals, weights, blood pressures and blood samples.
- Perform in-house lab testing (bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal,etc.)
- Recognize signs of pain, respiratory distress, and abnormal parameters
- Obtain diagnostic radiographs using proper technique and safety protocols
- Place peripheral IV catheters and administer SC, IM, and IV injections
- Place central lines, Nasogastric tubes, sampling catheters, arterial lines and other advanced procedures.
- Perform outpatient treatments and wound care
- Dispense oral medications as directed
- Providing client education
- Possess knowledge of small animal health, infectious disease, medical math and medical terminology.
Qualifications
✔ Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical experience (required)
✔ Licensed Veterinary Technician (preferred)
✔ Emergency or specialty experience (preferred)
✔ Coachable, driven, and passionate about patient and client care
Schedule & Differentials
- Weekends
- 2nd Shift 3p-1a
- 3rd Shift 10p-8a
- Some holidays required
Shift Differentials:
- Weekend: +$3/hr
- 2nd Shift: +$4/hr
- 3rd Shift: +$5.00/hr
