About the Role:
As the Legal Intern, you will support the Legal Department of a growing life insurance and annuity company by assisting attorneys and legal professionals with research, policy & procedure drafting, regulatory analysis, and other legal projects. This internship is designed for a first-year law student interested in gaining practical in-house legal experience within the insurance and financial services industry.
You will have exposure to a broad range of legal matters, including the insurance regulatory landscape, compliance, and insurance operational issues.
This role provides an opportunity to work directly with attorneys and legal staff while developing an understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing life insurance and annuity products.
What You'll Do:
Legal Research & Analysis
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on issues related to insurance law, corporate law, and financial services regulation.
- Review and summarize statutes, regulations, regulatory guidance, and case law affecting the life insurance and annuity industry.
Contracts & Legal Documentation
- Assist attorneys with the review, drafting, and organization of contracts, non-disclosure agreements, vendor agreements, and other legal documents.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
- Support state insurance regulatory research and tracking of legislative and regulatory developments.
- Assist with compliance-related projects and internal policy reviews.
Cross-Functional Exposure & Projects
- Attend legal department meetings and collaborate with business stakeholders across the organization.
- Perform other legal and administrative tasks as assigned.
What You Bring:
Required
- Completion of first year (1L) at an accredited law school.
- Strong academic performance.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
- Interest in insurance, financial services, corporate law, securities, compliance, or regulatory law.
- Familiarity with legal research platforms such as LexisNexis.
