American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and TNCC certification.

Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU — travelers would not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
-
Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases — diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma

Cardiac experience is preferred but not required; CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op experience is a plus — fresh open heart cases are reserved for permanent staff

Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), determined by acuity

Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter by October); Omnicell for medication management

12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week

Weekend rotation targets every other weekend

No on-call responsibilities

Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg and Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Active RN license — SD license or compact license required

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (required prior to start)

Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience and significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered with management approval

Epic EMR experience required

Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic line management; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
-
Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
-
Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility

Minimum of one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered

Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
-
Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and robust physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights

Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation session, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts

May occasionally be expected to precept nursing students

No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August annually)

Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, but the contract must be extended to fulfill the full 13-week duration

Navy scrubs required
