Job purpose
Keep the shipyard powered and operational by performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on cranes, forklifts, welding equipment, HVAC systems, vehicles, facility electrical systems, and production machinery. This hands-on role requires strong electrical and mechanical skills, experience with 480V systems, and a commitment to safety while working at heights, in confined spaces, and in outdoor industrial environments. Ideal candidates are self-motivated team players who can diagnose problems, minimize downtime, and help maintain critical shipyard operations.
Duties and responsibilities
· Maintain welding machines, forklifts, crawler & overhead cranes, vehicles and hand tools.
· Follow Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
· Disconnect and connect high voltage equipment such as welding machines and shore power for vessels under construction.
· Enter and work in confined spaces.
· Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
· Repair and overhaul of large and small machinery.
· Building maintenance.
· Maintain and repair painting/blasting equipment.
· Maintain and repair company trailers.
· Connect shore power to vessels.
· Maintain reports for all the above.
· Ascend and work at heights of up to 40 feet.
Critical Demands
· Balance and strength to climb 40 ft. ladder.
· Repetitive bending, rotation of the trunk, and flexing of the hips and the knees.
· Lifting no greater than 50 lbs. from floor to 6 ft. work surface unassisted.
· Repetitive upper extremity movements while measuring, fitting, and welding.
· Work well with a team in a high pace environment and follow instructions from supervision.
· Capable of working independently with little direction and oversight.
Education and/or Experience
Experience with 480V systems is required.
· Experience or familiarity with 13kV systems is a plus.
· Troubleshooting and mechanical skills are critical.
Working Conditions
- Work is outdoors or in an open shop area. There is no air conditioning or heating. Overtime and weekend work as required.
- Uneven surfaces throughout job site, with sand, limestone, concrete, and railways outside, as well as concrete and railways inside. Numerous overhead and trip hazards throughout.

Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
