Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Manual Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating manual lathes to produce precision metal components according to engineering specifications. Your expertise in mechanical blueprint interpretation, measurement, and machining tools will ensure the highest quality standards are met. Duties
- Set up and operate manual lathe machines with precision, ensuring accurate cutting, threading, and finishing of metal parts
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications to determine machining requirements
- Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and quality of machined parts
- Select and install appropriate tooling and fixtures for each job, ensuring proper machine setup for optimal performance
- Perform routine maintenance on lathes and hand tools to maintain safety and efficiency standards
- Conduct quality inspections using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles and measurement instruments to ensure parts meet specifications
- Collaborate with team members on assembly processes and troubleshoot machining issues promptly to minimize downtime
Requirements
- Proven experience operating manual lathes in a manufacturing or metalworking environment
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading and mechanical blueprint interpretation
- Proficiency with machining tools, hand tools, power tools, and tooling setup procedures
- Knowledge of CNC machining concepts such as CNC programming, G-code/M-code, and CNC quality inspection is a plus but not mandatory
- Familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks or CAD programs for interpreting design files is advantageous
- Mechanical knowledge including basic math skills for measurements and calculations in machining processes
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators accurately
- Basic understanding of manufacturing safety protocols and proper use of grinding machines and other finishing tools
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on precision measurement in metal machining tasks
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machine setups and machining issues efficiently
