Position Summary:
The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, medication management, crisis intervention services, and clinical oversight for individuals receiving behavioral health and mental health services. The Psychiatrist will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support individuals experiencing mental health crises, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and emotional or behavioral challenges.
This position includes participation in Mobile Crisis services, psychiatric consultations, and ongoing medication management to ensure consumers receive comprehensive and person-centered care in compliance with state, federal, DHHS, Medicaid, and company regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Psychiatric Evaluations & Assessments
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
- Diagnose mental health, behavioral health, and co-occurring disorders in accordance with DSM-5 criteria.
- Complete psychiatric assessments within required timeframes.
- Review psychological, medical, social, and treatment histories to develop appropriate treatment recommendations.
Medication Management
- Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychotropic medications.
- Conduct medication reviews and follow-up appointments.
- Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and compliance.
- Educate consumers and families regarding medications, treatment plans, risks, and benefits.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all medication management services.
Mobile Crisis Services
- Respond to behavioral health and psychiatric crisis situations as needed.
- Provide crisis stabilization assessments and interventions in community-based settings.
- Collaborate with hospitals, law enforcement, EMS, crisis centers, DSS, and community agencies during crisis situations.
- Assist in determining appropriate levels of care, including hospitalization, outpatient treatment, or community stabilization.
- Participate in on-call crisis rotation if applicable.
Treatment Planning & Collaboration
- Collaborate with Qualified Professionals, therapists, nurses, peer support specialists, CADCs, and other treatment team members.
- Participate in Treatment Team Meetings (TTMs) and interdisciplinary case consultations.
- Review and approve treatment recommendations when clinically appropriate.
- Provide clinical guidance and support to behavioral health staff.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely clinical documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Ensure all documentation complies with Medicaid, DHHS, CARF, HIPAA, and payer requirements.
- Complete notes, assessments, and required documentation within established deadlines.
- Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance reviews.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain active licensure and prescribing authority.
- Stay current with evidence-based psychiatric practices and continuing education requirements.
- Participate in staff trainings and clinical meetings.
- Promote a professional, ethical, and trauma-informed treatment environment.
QualificationsEducation:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
Licensure/Certification:
- Active and unrestricted North Carolina Medical License.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry preferred.
- Active DEA registration.
- Active NPI number.
- Medicaid enrollment preferred.
Experience:
- Experience working in behavioral health, community mental health, substance use treatment, or crisis services preferred.
- Experience with Mobile Crisis, medication management, and co-occurring disorders preferred.
- Knowledge of Medicaid and managed care requirements preferred.

- Office-based, community-based, and mobile crisis settings.
- May require evening, weekend, holiday, or on-call coverage depending on program needs.
Pay: $74,866.65 - $90,161.98 per year
