Full-Time Science Classroom Teacher
A classroom teacher supports student learning, growth, and development through their assigned classes and duties and supports and strengthens the mission of Bishop Dwenger High School, to develop “Citizens of Two Worlds” who excel in the areas of spirituality, service, academics, and the active life upholding the Catholic Faith.
Job Responsibility
Instruction & Curriculum
-
Plan and deliver effective instruction in assigned science courses (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, Environmental Science, or other offerings as assigned)
- This position is for Environmental Science and Earth & Space Science.
- Develop lesson plans aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and Bishop Dwenger curriculum frameworks
- Incorporate laboratory investigations, inquiry-based learning, and hands-on experimentation
- Integrate technology and real-world scientific applications into instruction utilizing the schools 1:1 blended learning model utilizing Canvas

Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative methods
- Maintain accurate and timely grade records in the school’s system
Faith & Ethical Integration

Encourage thoughtful dialogue regarding the relationship between faith and science
- Promote ethical reflection on scientific issues in light of Catholic social teaching
- Foster a classroom culture that respects the dignity of every person
Classroom Environment

Maintain a safe, structured, and positive laboratory and classroom environment
- Enforce safety protocols and proper use of scientific equipment
- Establish clear academic and behavioral expectations aligned with diocesan and school policy and procedures

Promote academic integrity and responsible scholarship
Student Support

Provide academic assistance and mentoring to students
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborate with administration, counselors, and colleagues to support student success
Professional Responsibilities

Participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development
- Maintain appropriate licensure and continue professional growth in science education
- Serve as moderator for a club, team, or co-curricular activity as assigned
- Fulfill supervisory duties (e.g., lunch duty, study hall, arrival/dismissal)
- Support school-wide events/services, retreats, and community activities
Qualifications
Required

Bachelor’s degree in Science or Science Education in Life Science
- Valid Indiana teaching license (or ability to obtain licensure)
- Commitment to the mission and Catholic identity of Bishop Dwenger High School

Strong content knowledge in assigned scientific disciplines
- Effective classroom and laboratory management skills
- Ability to integrate faith and reason in meaningful and age-appropriate ways
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with instructional technology and data-driven instruction
