Medical Assistant – Front Office & Clinical
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and support within our facilities. This position requires a strong background in medical terminology, patient service, clinical procedures, front-office operations, and insurance verification, with a focus on delivering exceptional care in outpatient clinic settings.
ResponsibilitiesFront Office & Patient Services
- Greet and assist patients in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner.
- Answer incoming calls and provide excellent telephone etiquette and customer service.
- Schedule, confirm, and coordinate patient appointments.
- Verify patient eligibility and benefits for Medi-Cal, Medicare, commercial insurance, PPO and other health plans.
- Obtain and update patient demographic and insurance information.
- Assist with referrals, authorizations, and insurance-related inquiries as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
- Accurately document patient information in the NextGen EHR system.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient intake, including obtaining vital signs and medical histories.
- Provide direct patient care, ensuring comfort and safety during examinations and treatments.
- Administer medications as prescribed and perform basic life support when necessary.
- Maintain accurate patient records using EHR systems, including documentation of ICD coding and treatment plans.
- Support clinical operations by preparing examination rooms, sterilizing instruments, and managing inventory of medical supplies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care across various specialties, including Internal Medicine.
- Educate patients on health maintenance and disease prevention strategies while providing compassionate support throughout their care journey.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting required.
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in an outpatient clinic.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with NextGen EHR for patient documentation and management.
- Strong understanding of patient intake processes and vital sign assessments.
- Experience with medication administration and basic emergency procedures.
- Knowledge of insurance eligibility and benefits verification, including Medi-Cal/Medical, Medicare, and commercial health plans.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient-service skills.
- Professional and courteous telephone etiquette.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Fluent bilingual English/Spanish required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
