PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Perform registration and donor screening procedures for all potential donors. Giving every donor exceptional customer service and ensuring all steps are consistent with current practices, compliant with all regulatory requirements, and assure donor and recipient safety
EXPERIENCE:
- Customer service
- Medical terminology or medical training background is desired
- Basic keyboarding
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (able to convey and receive verbal and written information clearly while being sensitive to the audience addressed)
- Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team setting
- Ability to organize tasks efficiently and accurately
- Ability to follow instructions, reason and make appropriate judgments
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates a complete understanding of all established policies and procedures within the applicable departments as outlined
- Perform and evaluate the donor’s health history screening with minimal errors
- Use the current computer system to register donors, access and input donor information quickly and accurately in compliance with all standard operating procedures
- Guide the donors through the process with respect, courtesy, and attention
- Be courteous, conscientious, and professional when interacting with internal and external customers
- Maintain donor confidentiality while demonstrating concurrent documentation throughout the process
- Work in a fluid, dynamic professional environment, collaborating and promoting a positive attitude and teamwork
- Positively identify donors throughout the donation process
- Provide educational information to donors on other donation types
- Correctly perform, document, and evaluate all quality control (QC) of equipment
- Ensure all equipment is operational and properly used to minimize the cost of repair and maintenance
- Ensure work areas are clean, well-stocked, and organized at all times
- Float between fixed sites and mobile collections
- Assist in set-up and tear down of blood collection equipment on mobiles, according to established plan
- Ability to travel several hours with the mobile unit
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings
- Demonstrate dependability and punctuality
- Maintain a professional appearance
- Understands and adheres to the policies and standards developed by Houchin Community Blood Bank
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.
- Work in an air-conditioned office building or air-conditioned bloodmobile.
- Intermittently work in weather conditions that include but are not limited to; rain, heat, wind
- Potential exposure to biohazardous material (blood, bodily fluids)
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to intermittently kneel, squat, bend, twist, reach, and climb up and down steps
