Job Brief:
SMP Supply is a premier distributor of pipe, valves, fittings, and flanges for over 30 years. The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machine tools to produce metal and non-metal parts.
Responsibilities:
· Set up and operate manual machine tools, including lathes, drill press, grinders, and other equipment.
· Read and interpret work orders and specifications.
· Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometer, gauges, and indicators.
· Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine settings to achieve required tolerances.
· Monitor machine operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
· Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues to supervisors.
· Troubleshoot machining and production problems to minimize downtime.
· Maintain accurate production and quality records.
· Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Keep work areas clean and organized.
· Collaborate with supervisors and quality personnel to improve processes and productivity.
Requirements:
· 2+ years of machining experience preferred.
· Knowledge of machining principles, tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds.
· Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Strong attention to detail and quality.
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
· Frequently lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
· Manual dexterity to operate machinery and measuring equipment.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, vibration, and metalworking fluids.
· Required use of safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear, and other PPE as needed.
May require overtime, weekend work on production demands
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
