Deaf Independent Living Association, Inc. (DILA) is seeking qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to provide interpreting services for d/Deaf individuals, including those with physical and mental disabilities, across a variety of settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpreting skills, cultural competency, and a commitment to supporting the d/Deaf community. Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification preferred but must be in process for the State of Maryland. Familiarity with professional standards is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and effective ASL interpretation in various settings, including but not limited to medical, educational, professional, and community environments.
- Adapt interpretation to meet the communication needs of individuals with varying levels of communication skills.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in all interpreting assignments.
- Adhere to the RID Code of Professional Conduct and industry best practices.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, as hours may vary weekly.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience in ASL interpretation.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with strong written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of the RID Code of Professional Conduct and best practices in the field of interpretation.
- Ability to interpret for individuals with diverse communication needs, including those with physical and mental disabilities.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and maintain focus during lengthy interpreting assignments.
- Daytime availability is highly desirable.
