Position Title: Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full-time, hourly
Position Summary
This position is responsible for building awareness of United Way of South Central Nebraska through communications, community engagement, and event coordination, while providing support to the annual campaign and fundraising efforts. The role requires strong writing and interpersonal skills, creativity, and the ability to represent the organization effectively across Adams, Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties. This position works closely with the Executive Director and collaborates with the Board of Directors on community and campaign initiatives.
Communications & Marketing
- Build and continually refine a communications strategy that grows United Way’s visibility and reach across the region.
- Own the organization’s website, expanding content and functionality to better showcase impact and engage visitors.
- Grow social media engagement and following through fresh, consistent content that strengthens the organization’s brand.
- Prepare communication pieces, promotional materials, and messaging for community meetings, events, and campaigns.
- Expand media relationships and secure increased coverage through press releases and proactive outreach to local television, radio, and print outlets.
Campaign & Fundraising Support
- Provide team support across all areas of the annual campaign, including representing United Way at campaign presentations and events.
- Strengthen donor relationships through timely, personalized communication and consistent recognition of their contributions.
- Grow long-term donor loyalty by developing and executing stewardship activities that deepen engagement and encourage continued giving.
- Update and maintain the Donation Tracker database; generate campaign reports to track progress.
- Support the Executive Director with campaign contacts and volunteer coordination.
- Assist with in-kind goods and services solicitation as needed.
Events
- Coordinate logistics for United Way events, including the Annual Meeting, Campaign Kick-Off, Golf Tournament, and other identified events.
- Identify and secure event sponsorships from local businesses and organizations, coordinating sponsor benefits and recognition.
- Recruit and manage event volunteers.
- Maintain the master invitee list, including donors, businesses, board members, agency partners, and community volunteers.
- Work with the Executive Director to ensure events support campaign and community engagement goals.
Community Engagement
- Help increase awareness of United Way's mission and impact throughout Adams, Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties.
- Represent United Way at community activities, presentations, and events as needed.
- Assist in planning and hosting community meetings to advance the organization's community impact work.
- Schedule and deliver presentations to service clubs, community groups, and potential funding organizations to educate and build support.
- Maintain Imagination Library registration and promote the program to the community.
Board & Administrative Support
- Support Board of Directors meetings by preparing agendas, minutes, and maintaining permanent records (as needed).
- Monitor and help process campaign accounts, including pledges, direct bills, designations, and collections.
- Ensure receipts and deposits are completed in a timely manner.
Other
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Work collaboratively as part of a small, dynamic team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Physical Demands
Sitting and/or standing for extended periods, occasional lifting up to approximately 30 pounds, regular use of phone, copier, and computer. Reliable transportation required.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Two to four years of experience in communications, community engagement, event coordination, or nonprofit administration.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated success working in a collaborative team environment with strong customer/community relations skills.
- Experience supporting fundraising or campaign activities preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong event planning and coordination skills.
- Experience managing social media and website content.
- Graphic design/marketing skills preferred (e.g., Canva, Publisher).
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite.
- Familiarity with donor management/database software (e.g., Donation Tracker) a plus.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Passion for the mission of United Way of South Central Nebraska.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
