Lerch Bates is seeking motivated students and emerging professionals to join our Internship Program. This evergreen opportunity allows us to connect with talented individuals throughout the year for potential internship openings across multiple service lines and business functions.
As an Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting real projects while working alongside industry professionals in engineering, architecture, building science, vertical transportation, consulting, operations, marketing, finance, human resources, and other corporate functions. Internship assignments vary based on business needs, office location, educational background, and candidate interests.
This role is ideal for students who are eager to learn, build professional skills, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain exposure to the consulting, design, engineering, and construction industries.

Project & Technical Support
Assist project teams with research, data collection, document preparation, and project coordination activities.
Support the development of reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, spreadsheets, and other project deliverables.
Assist with project scheduling, tracking, and administrative tasks.
Learn industry standards, processes, and best practices while supporting active projects.
Field & Operational Exposure
Observe and assist with site visits, field surveys, inspections, testing activities, or project meetings as applicable to the assigned department.
Gain exposure to building systems, construction processes, engineering evaluations, consulting services, and client projects.
Assist with documentation of observations and project information.
Business & Professional Development
Collaborate with team members across multiple departments and disciplines.
Participate in training, mentorship opportunities, and learning activities designed to support professional growth.
Develop skills in communication, time management, organization, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Support special projects and operational initiatives assigned.
Present internship experiences, project work, or key learnings upon completion of the internship, when applicable.
Current enrollment in a high school, associate, bachelor's, or master's degree program, or recent completion of a related program.
Interest in one or more of the following fields: engineering, architecture, construction management, building science, business, marketing, finance, human resources, information technology, operations, or a related discipline.
Strong academic performance and a demonstrated willingness to learn.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing within a collaborative team environment.
Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analytical abilities.
Professionalism, adaptability, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced work environment.
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, or other industry-related software is a plus, depending on the internship assignment.
Previous internship, volunteer, leadership, extracurricular, or work experience is preferred but not required.

This position is primarily performed on active construction sites and existing buildings, with occasional office work for reporting and project coordination. Work regularly occurs outdoors and may expose employees to varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, dust, noise, and uneven terrain.
Project assignments frequently require travel throughout the assigned region.

This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, crawling, and lifting throughout the workday. Employees must safely navigate active construction sites, climb ladders and scaffolding, access rooftops, and work at elevated heights.
The role requires the ability to carry testing equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, fall protection, and safety footwear.
Frequent travel between project sites is required.
This position requires strong observational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to accurately document field conditions. Employees must follow testing procedures, identify deficiencies, interpret construction documents, communicate effectively with project teams, and prepare clear technical reports.
The ability to adapt to changing site conditions while managing multiple assignments and deadlines is essential.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test. The drug test includes screening for marijuana, regardless of state or local laws permitting its use. A conditional offer of employment will be rescinded if a candidate fails either the background check or the drug test.
