Duties
- Prepare and submit accurate claims for home health and AFC services using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Apply appropriate coding including DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes to ensure precise billing aligned with medical records.
- Review medical records for completeness, correctness, and compliance with billing guidelines before claim submission.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, claim status updates, and correspondence with insurance providers.
- Stay current with changes in healthcare regulations, coding standards, and payer policies to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to verify service documentation aligns with billing requirements and supports accurate reimbursement.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and medical terminology.
- Proven experience in medical billing within home health or adult foster care settings.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms used for documentation and billing processes.
- Excellent understanding of medical records management and the importance of accuracy in coding and documentation.
- Ability to navigate insurance claim processes efficiently, including appeals and collections.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients as needed.
