The Austin Humane Society (AHS) is hiring a full-time Animal Services Technician for our Animal Services Department. The Austin Humane Society offers comprehensive, humane, life-saving animal services, transforming the lives of animals and those who love them.
Are you looking for a position where you can make a difference in the lives of people and animals? Do you love the idea of spending your days providing basic clinic care to dogs and cats and getting them ready for loving homes? Then our Animal Services Tech position at Austin Humane Society might be the perfect role for you!
As an Animal Services Technician, you will have the opportunity to welcome animals into our program, get them ready for adoption, maintain clean kennels and accurate records, interact with customers and rescuers, and perform purpose-driven work!
This position can be very emotional and requires working closely with the public, learning to vaccinate and perform blood draws, and showing patience and compassion when handling nervous animals. If making a significant difference in the lives of shelter animals and working with animals and fellow animal lovers is something you are passionate about, it could be the most fulfilling job you’ve ever had.
A typical shift is composed of 10 hour days, 8am-7pm, 4 days a week on a set schedule. One weekend day shift will be required. The role does involve (very occasionally) independently driving a large vehicle for animal transport. AHS has staff onsite 365 days a year to provide animal care and support, so some holiday shifts should be expected.
AHS is Austin's oldest no-kill non-profit animal shelter, in operation since 1952. Through our various programs, we serve 11,000+ dogs and cats each year.
Additional perks for joining the AHS family:
- Medical insurance covered 100% by AHS, with free telemedicine visits
- Dental & Vision insurance
- Life and Long Term Disability insurance
- Flexible spending account (FSA)
- Set schedules
- Generous PTO and paid holidays
- FREE wellness exams, vaccinations, and services for your pets
- FREE adoption for you or a family member
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and work-life balance services and support
- Employee 'kudos' recognition program, with an opportunity for winning gift cards for going above and beyond in your work
- Opportunity for growth and salary increases based on performance
- Additional incentive for Spanish-speakers
Job Requirements: Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in customer service, a valid Driver's License and ability to drive AHS vehicles independently, the ability to multi-task, and strong organizational and communication skills. This position includes mandatory weekend hours. Candidates should be willing to work hard, remain busy, and be a self-starter.
At least 1 year of experience working in a veterinary clinic or shelter environment is strongly preferred. Preferred availability to start within two weeks or less of job offer.
