Regional Underground Construction & Operations Manager
Novi, Michigan
Continue the Legacy. Build the Future.
Leadership Opportunity:
VanComm is seeking an experienced Regional Underground Construction & Operations Manager to lead and grow our underground telecommunications construction operation throughout Michigan.
This is more than a construction management position. It's an opportunity to lead an established operation, develop outstanding people, strengthen customer relationships, and help shape the future of one of VanComm's most important regional markets.
If you're an experienced underground construction leader with deep roots in Michigan and are looking for the opportunity to build something meaningful, we'd like to talk with you.
About VanComm:
Founded in 2011, VanComm has built its reputation by doing quality work, standing behind our commitments, and developing long-term relationships with our customers.
Today, we provide underground construction, aerial construction, fiber optic splicing, HFC powering, engineering support, and fulfillment services throughout the United States.
Our growth has never been driven by chasing every opportunity.
It has been earned through reputation, relationships, and results.
What Success Looks Like at VanComm:
Over the years, we've learned that the true measure of leadership isn't simply the work you complete.
It's the people you develop, the relationships you build, and the operation you leave better than you found it.
That's how we define success.
We're looking for someone who believes that too.
Someone who understands that great leaders don't just build successful projects.
They build successful people.
The Opportunity:
As our Regional Underground Construction & Operations Manager, you'll serve as the operational leader for our Michigan underground construction business.
Working from our Novi office, you'll lead approximately $2–3 million in annual underground construction operations while managing approximately 10 field employees along with trusted subcontractor partners.
You'll have the support of our corporate office for accounting, payroll, billing, HR, and administrative functions, allowing you to focus on what matters most—leading people, serving customers, and building a great operation.
This position requires very little overnight travel and primarily supports projects within approximately a two-hour radius of Novi.
The Leader We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone who has earned the respect of crews, customers, subcontractors, and peers throughout Michigan's underground utility and telecommunications industry.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 10+ years of underground utility or telecommunications construction experience
- Experience leading multiple underground construction crews and field supervisors
- Strong knowledge of underground telecom construction methods, scheduling, safety, and production
- An established professional network throughout Michigan
- Experience managing project profitability, customer relationships, and field operations
- The ability to recruit, mentor, coach, and develop high-performing people
- The confidence to make sound operational decisions while working directly with ownership
Leadership at VanComm:
We believe the best leaders are equally respected in work boots and at the conference table.
They know when the operation needs them in the field.
They know when a customer needs their attention.
They value coaching over criticism because they understand that every great team reflects the quality of its leadership.
They don't hide behind a desk.
They also don't spend every day running equipment.
They understand that great leadership requires both technical credibility and business judgment.
Most importantly, they know where they're needed most—and they lead accordingly.
