Position Summary
The Production Engineer is responsible for supporting and optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality production. This role works closely with operations, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, implement process improvements, and support new product introductions. A strong capability in data analysis, automation, and digital tools—particularly Microsoft Excel—is essential, along with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, CAD/CAM systems, and CNC programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions in a timely manner
- Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
- Support new product launches, including process development, tooling, fixturing, and validation
- Monitor and analyze production data (efficiency, scrap, downtime) to drive decision-making
- Develop and maintain Excel-based tools for tracking, reporting, and process optimization
- Automate repetitive tasks and reporting through advanced Excel functions (macros, VBA, Power Query) or other programming tools
- Collaborate with quality teams to investigate nonconformances and implement root cause corrective actions
- Assist in the design of fixtures, tooling, and production aids using CAD software
- Support CNC machining operations, including program review, optimization, and troubleshooting
- Interpret and, when necessary, create or modify CNC programs using G-code and M-code
- Work with CAM software to develop and optimize machining strategies (preferred)
- Work with maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement efforts (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen)
- Support cost reduction initiatives, including material usage and cycle time improvements
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Technical education, training, or equivalent hands-on experience in manufacturing, machining, or engineering-related field required (Associate degree, trade school, apprenticeship, or relevant work experience all considered)
- 2–5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment (preferred)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (required), including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
- Experience with Excel automation tools (VBA, macros, Power Query) strongly preferred
- Programming or scripting experience (preferred) such as Python, SQL, or similar tools
- Experience with CAD software (preferred), specifically SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
- Exposure to CAM software and CNC machining processes (preferred)
- Understanding of CNC programming, including G-code and M-code (preferred)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, including GD&T
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (preferred)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with CNC machining, fabrication, or assembly processes
- Familiarity with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)
- Knowledge of process capability (Cp/Cpk) and statistical analysis
- Experience with database management or data extraction (SQL)
- Familiarity with automation, scripting, or API integration
