Douglas Area Rural Transit (DART) Drivers provide reliable, safe, and accessible transportation options to key destinations, including shopping centers, medical facilities, and the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Through both the Dial-a-Ride and the Fixed-Route services, Drivers ensure community members can accomplish the necessary tasks of daily living. Primary Objectives
Performs intermediate work transporting the public, senior citizens, and residents with disabilities to and from various locations within the County; performing special assistance for individuals with disabilities; performing related work as apparent or assigned.
This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening in accordance with NDOT and FTA Part 40 regulations.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Inspects vehicle to ensure that it is in a clean and in operable condition; completes inspection paperwork/checklist; reports the need for service or repair; ensures that vehicles are scheduled for routine maintenance as required.

Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties, following a pre-established schedule or on an on-call basis.

Stops vehicle at various locations to pick-up and let off passengers; assists passengers with disabilities in embarking and disembarking and may load and unload luggage, packages and other items as required.

Answers questions and provides information to passengers as required; may provide information to medical and social service providers regarding client status.

Maintains driver log; if required, lists client name, address and other information for each trip.

May transport meals to the homebound, assuring that the meal is safely delivered; may pickup empty trays from prior delivery; loads trays into carrying devices and onto the van for home bound delivery; checks temperature of hot meals, reports findings on a daily basis to the designated record keeper; reports unusual circumstances (no one home - no response at the door) to Supervisor.

Washes and cleans the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles; fuels the vehicle.

May drive a handicapped access vehicle to transport wheelchair and other elderly and handicapped clients; assists individuals requiring wheelchair assistance in the entry and exit from the vehicle.

Assists individuals with physical needs in the entry and exit of the vehicle.

Participates in in-service training to update skills and learn techniques for dealing with various clients.

Perform all duties in accordance to Federal Transportation Administration as it relates to public transit.

Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives ,and activities.

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force.

Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration; frequently requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment); occasionally requires exposure to wet/humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to the risk of electrical shock.
