Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Creole Legal Assistant to join our legal team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support a diverse range of legal practices, including estate planning, environmental law, tribal law, and litigation. The ideal candidate will be energized by complex legal research, document management, and providing exceptional administrative support. Your proactive approach and strong organizational skills will be instrumental in ensuring smooth legal operations and delivering outstanding service to clients and attorneys alike.
Duties
- Assist attorneys with legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools to support cases across multiple practice areas such as family law, securities law, and workers' compensation law.
- Prepare, review, and proofread legal documents including contracts, pleadings, briefs, and correspondence with precision and attention to detail.
- Manage case files efficiently using document management systems like iManage and PCLaw; ensure all files are accurate, updated, and properly organized.
- Conduct thorough document review and data entry for case files, ensuring compliance with procedural law requirements.
- Support litigation processes through document review, filing in court systems, and coordinating with clients for interviews or information gathering.
- Provide executive administrative support including calendar management, scheduling meetings, handling phone etiquette professionally, and maintaining organized filing systems.
- Perform legal research on various topics such as patent law, landlord-tenant issues, tribal regulations, or personal injury cases to assist attorneys in case preparation.
- Assist with client interviews by gathering relevant information efficiently while maintaining confidentiality.
- Support project management tasks related to ongoing legal cases or initiatives to ensure deadlines are met effectively.
Experience
- Paralegal experience or equivalent legal administrative experience in a fast-paced law office environment.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks such as document review, data entry, and legal research simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
- Familiarity with a variety of practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, tribal law & regulations, family law, securities law, patent law, and general & commercial litigation.
- Experience with legal case management software such as iManage or PCLaw; proficiency in Westlaw or LexisNexis for legal research purposes.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in proofreading and transcription tasks.
- Excellent written communication skills for drafting documents and correspondence clearly and professionally.
- Knowledge of procedural laws relevant to court filings and litigation processes across jurisdictions.
- Ability to manage confidential information discreetly while providing exceptional clerical support like filing and data entry.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
