JOB SUMMARY:
The Underground Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to support underground utility and electrical construction projects. This role includes excavation, trenching, grading, and material handling while working closely with field crews to ensure projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with all safety standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong equipment skills, jobsite awareness, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate heavy equipment including backhoe, mini excavator, skid steer, front-end loader, and telehandler in a safe and efficient manner (certification required or preferred).
- Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material handling to support underground utility and electrical installations.
- Read and interpret site plans, utility locates, and grade stakes to ensure accurate digging and placement.
- Safely work around existing underground utilities while maintaining compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Assist ground crew with labor tasks as needed, including hand digging, site cleanup, and material staging.
- Maintain clean, organized job sites and ensure tools and equipment are properly stored.
- Communicate effectively with foremen, project managers, and crew members regarding job progress and site conditions.
- Load and unload materials using telehandler or loader as required.
- Follow all traffic control plans and jobsite safety procedures when working in active or public areas.
- Support project schedules by completing assigned tasks efficiently, safely, and professionally.
- Properly track working hours and mileage daily.
- Maintain the assigned Company Vehicle:
o Provide an initial and monthly Vehicle Inspection.
o Keep the interior and exterior of the vehicle clean and organized.
o Drive in a safe and responsible manner always.
o Report any maintenance or performance concerns to management promptly.
o Refuel vehicle before falling under ¼ tank.
o Assigned gas card is kept in a secured location. If lost or stolen, Management must be notified immediately.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of terrains and weather conditions during all times day and night.
- Must be able to perform near power lines and electricity.
- Must be able to be outdoors with all aspects of nature to include a variety of insects and plants.
- Must be able to be exposed to dirt, dust, noise, cleaning solutions, and pets.
- Must maintain below the maximum weight limitations of the equipment for safety.
- Ability to carry, climb, operate, and work upon an extension ladder multiple times daily.
- Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner for which customers can understand and find courteous and professional.
- Must be able to lift 50-80 pound throughout the day.
- Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces while bending, twisting, and reaching.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
