Position Title: Mechanical Quality Inspector – 2nd Shift

Position Overview
A growing heavy fabrication manufacturing company in Batavia, Ohio is seeking a Mechanical Quality Inspector to join the team on 2nd Shift. This role is responsible for inspecting fabricated metal components, weldments, and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment, strong blueprint reading skills, and the ability to use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-process and final inspections of fabricated metal components, weldments, and assemblies.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and specifications to verify compliance.
- Use precision measuring equipment including:
- Calipers
- Micrometers
- Height gauges
- Tape measures
- Angle finders
- Layout tools
- Inspect weld quality, structural components, and fabricated assemblies for dimensional accuracy and workmanship.
- Document inspection results and maintain quality records and inspection reports.
- Identify non-conforming materials and collaborate with production teams to resolve issues.
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions when quality issues arise.
- Ensure compliance with company quality procedures, safety policies, and customer requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the quality and production teams.
Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience inspecting weldments, fabricated steel structures, or heavy assemblies preferred.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of GD&T principles is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with production teams.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical training or certification in Quality, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Inspection is a plus
Work Environment
- Heavy manufacturing / fabrication facility
- Exposure to welding, machining, grinding, and large fabricated assemblies
- Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 40–50 lbs
Schedule
2nd Shift:
Typically 2:00 PM – 10:15 PM (or similar schedule depending on production needs)
