Job Description:
The Product Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and performs a variety of duties in support of both internal and external technical needs. This involves significant support of the sales team through basic mechanical (spring) design and operational analysis associated with customer RFQs. It also involves support of production tool design, automation, and overall manufacturing process needs, as well as the identification and implementation of machine and other process improvements and efficiencies. He/she provides assistance to the quality team in support of basic quality directives and customer quality issues and also assists sales in development of technical presentation materials for customer responses and/or value messaging.
While beneficial, prior spring design experience is not required. What is required is a strong foundation of basic engineering and mechanical design principles and a willingness/commitment to learn, adapt, and communicate well as part of a team. The successful candidate is someone who is accountable, not only to themselves but to the team, and has a “do what it takes” attitude toward getting every job done right. Minimal (0-5%) travel expected, with occasional but rare overnights.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Use company provided software and knowledge of mechanical principles to perform basic design and feasibility assessments in support of the quoting process
- 2D & 3D CAD generation for both internal and external applications
- Troubleshoot and assist with current production processes including vision system sorting, inline torque measurement, and Fanuc robotics issues
- Communicate with current and new customers regarding spring applications
- Coordinate/assist sales team with customer inquiries
- Work with production setup team to design/produce tooling for current and future jobs
- Design equipment for the automation of new and/or existing processes
- Assist with building automation and upkeep
- Occasionally travel to assist sales team with customer on-site visits
Behaviors, Skills & Experience:
Must-Have
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in engineering or related field
- 2D & 3D CAD experience
- Experience working with engineering drawings/prints
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite as well as the ability to quickly learn Autodesk Product design suite software system
- Strong baseline understanding of mechanical design concepts
- Excellent communication skills
- Must have a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Strong desire for continued growth and learning
- Willingness to wear multiple hats on a daily basis
- A “can do” attitude, and a bias toward taking action
- Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Preferred
- Autodesk Inventor and/or Fusion 360
- Experience with Fanuc LR mate robotics
- Experience working with customers, both engineers and purchasing, directly on design and cost issues
- Experience with Indraworks and/or JMobile HMI software
- Industry experience in Automotive, Industrial, Electrical System Hardware, Irrigation, Oil & Gas, or other mechanical systems markets
- Strong “hands on” mechanical aptitude
- Experience in or around a manufacturing environment
- Understanding of GD&T
