Burdick Painting is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll & Labor Compliance Specialist to manage weekly payroll processing and support payroll compliance for our construction workforce. The ideal candidate will have construction industry experience and a strong understanding of payroll for field employees, including timekeeping, overtime, meal breaks, prevailing wage, certified payroll, union reporting, and California wage and hour requirements. Experience with construction payroll systems and certified payroll reporting is strongly preferred. The role will support employees by resolving payroll and HR-related inquiries, onboarding new hires, and assisting with employee relations and special projects. We are seeking a detail-oriented, deadline-driven team member experienced in payroll processing who will bring strong technical skills and sound judgment.
Duties
· Process weekly payroll accurately and on time for hourly and field employees.
· Ensure payroll practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, with an emphasis on California wage and hour laws.
· Review and audit timecards for accuracy, including regular hours, overtime, meal breaks, and other wage and hour requirements.
· Process new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, deductions, leave, garnishments, and other payroll updates.
· Reconcile payroll and resolve discrepancies before weekly payroll submission.
· Process final pay and manual checks in accordance with California requirements.
· Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare payroll reports.
· Manage payroll and timekeeping systems, including Paycom and Assignar.
· Process and maintain prevailing wage and certified payroll for public works projects.
· Analyze and develop labor rate and wage strategies to improve company performance.
· Review wage determinations, employee classifications, wage rates, and fringe benefits for accuracy.
· Prepare certified payroll reports using systems such as LCP Tracker and DIR. While maintaining accurate employee classifications, wage rates, fringe benefits, and project information.
· Prepare monthly prevailing wage reports and coordinate with accredited organizations and contractors.
· Assist with 401(k), workers' compensation, and payroll-related audits and reconciliations.
· Monitor 401k contributions and employee changes.
· Research and resolve payroll and labor compliance questions from employees, supervisors, project teams, and contractors.
· Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personal information.
· Assist with full cycle of onboarding and terminations.
· Partner with People/HR and Finance to ensure clean employee data and accurate accounting.
· Perform other HR & Payroll duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of payroll experience required.
- Certified payroll reporting: LCP Tracker, DIR, etc.
- Construction industry experience is required.
- Process payroll for exempt & non-exempt employees
- Working knowledge of California wage and hour laws, including overtime, meals, sick leave, and final pay.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not required.
- Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll is required.
- Certified payroll reporting: LCP Tracker, DIR, etc.
- Experience with Paycom, Assignar, Sage Intacct, HCM and/or Criterion
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Regularly perform computer-based work for extended periods, requiring frequent use of standard office equipment.
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or carry office materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Pay: $38.00 - $48.00 per hour
