J&R Day Camp is located in Monroeville, PA. Owned and operated by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, J&R is a co-ed day camp with an emphasis on teambuilding, developing positive values, independence and premiere programming and activities. Our child-centered environment focuses on creating community and enriching the lives of our campers, families and staff. We serve children ages 5-14 through meaningful experiences that focus on building connections, teaching values, fostering individual growth and having fun. The JCC Day Camp experience supports, nourishes and sustains our campers, families and staff. We are professionals who have chosen to make a difference.

General Responsibilities: To encourage campers’ growth and skill development within the music specialty area
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience and/or qualification in instructing music and song leading with elementary and middle school-aged children
- Ability to set up demonstration area and program, and to teach skills to staff and campers ages 5-14
- Desire and willingness to work with children
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Good character, integrity, and adaptability
- Willingness to become knowledgeable in Positive Behavior Support techniques and strategies
Specific Responsibilities:
- Be available for pre-camp training in May and June
- Participate in Staff Week June 15-19, 2026
- Actively participate in staff trainings and meetings
- Assist in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory
- Prepare lesson plans in advance and review with the Creative Arts Coordinator to ensure materials needed are available, aspirational arcs are being set, and activities are age appropriate
- Implement creative weekly lesson plans by unit and age group for music that are infused with the Jewish value (middah) of the week
- Prepare for and lead week-long chugim (club) for 4th-8th grade campers throughout the summer, campers choice activities for K-3rd grade campers, and once weekly Shabboptions
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where campers feel comfortable expressing themselves and participating in music activities
- Be responsible for daily opening and closing procedures in the music tent
- Collaborate with drama and dance specialists to create a musical theater performance once during the summer
- Help to create virtual J&R Day Camp songbook with camp songs, Israeli songs, and Shabbat prayers
- Collaborate with Jewish Life Coordinator to lead Shabbat celebration on Friday afternoons including Shabbat prayers, songs, and facilitation
- Assist in packing all materials and supplies at end of season
- Must attend and plan for at least two after camp extra programming (late stay or overnight) – additional compensation provided
- Be a positive, contributing member of the specialist team
- Other duties as assigned
Compensation:
- $3,000 – $4,500 depending on experience
Bonuses:
- 100% Club: Awarded to staff members that work 44 full days of camp and attend all staff meetings $1000
- 39 Day Club: Awarded to staff members that work 39 full days of camp and attend all staff meetings $700
- Bus Brigade: Awarded to staff members for actively monitoring campers, ensuring proper behavior, and maintaining a safe environment on the school bus. This bonus recognizes the extra responsibility and vigilance required to protect the well-being of all passengers during transport Bus Captain- $350, Bus Monitor- $200
- Camp Crew Builder: Refer a friend that works 6 weeks of camp or more $250/referral (max of 4)
- Cornerstone: Returning staff who are selected to participate in the FJC Cornerstone Fellowship and attend the Cornerstone Seminar and implement follow-up programming at camp $250
Bonuses will be awarded in final paycheck – at the discretion of camp administration

Essential Job Duties:
While performing the above duties, this position routinely requires handling persons and/or objects and moving safely throughout the building. This position may include walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. This position requires communicating, either verbally or in writing. This position frequently requires moving items weighing up to 25 pounds. This position occasionally requires moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to complete all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must be able to obtain ACT 33/34 and FBI clearances and mandated reporter training.
