Position Scope:
Support Regional Sales Managers and manufacturer representatives by providing technical expertise, application engineering, and commercial support for custom HVAC solutions. Develop optimized equipment selections, review project specifications, identify technical and commercial risks, and prepare accurate quotations that align with SEMCO's manufacturing capabilities, product strategy, and profitability objectives. Serve as a trusted technical resource throughout the quotation process by improving application accuracy, quote responsiveness, customer experience, and proposal quality through clear technical clarifications and documented scope assumptions.
Technical Application Engineering
- Develop optimized HVAC system selections for Energy Recovery Units (ERU), Air Handling Units (AHU), Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS), and related products.
- Review customer plans, specifications, and Basis of Design requirements to develop technically compliant solutions.
- Recommend alternative equipment configurations that improve manufacturability, cost, or performance.
- Ensure proposed solutions align with SEMCO engineering standards and manufacturing capabilities.
- Provide technical support to Regional Sales Managers and manufacturer representatives regarding application feasibility and design criteria.
Quotation Development
- Prepare complete quotation packages including equipment selections, pricing support, performance data, and technical documentation.
- Identify project assumptions, clarifications, exclusions, and technical exceptions.
- Support margin improvement by identifying design efficiencies and commercial opportunities.
- Coordinate with Pricing, Engineering, Product Management, and Sourcing to develop competitive proposals.
Technical Sales Support
- Serve as the primary technical resource for Regional Sales Managers, manufacturer representatives, consulting engineers, and customers during the quotation process.
- Participate in customer meetings as needed to explain equipment selections and application recommendations.
- Assist with value engineering initiatives and alternate equipment proposals.
Risk Management
- Review project specifications for technical conflicts, ambiguous requirements, and commercial risks.
- Identify scope gaps that could impact project execution or profitability.
- Escalate high-risk applications requiring Engineering or Product Management review.
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Development, Sourcing, Operations, and Customer Service to ensure proposed solutions are technically sound and operationally achievable.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve quote turnaround time, application accuracy, and overall customer experience.
- Share technical knowledge, best practices, and application guidance with Regional Sales Managers and manufacturer representatives.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
- HVAC application engineering, technical sales, or similar experience preferred.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
- General understanding of HVAC systems and psychrometrics.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software.
Preferred
- AutoCAD and Inventor experience.
- Experience with custom air handling equipment.
- Knowledge of AHRI, ASHRAE, and applicable mechanical codes.
- Experience supporting consulting engineers and manufacturer representatives.
