Icon Structures, located in Kansas and Colorado Springs, is a growing general contractor specializing in commercial construction, providing pre-construction services, construction management, design-build work, and general contracting.
We are seeking a qualified Senior Estimator to join our team. We staff our projects correctly, our superintendents know how to build, and our leadership ensures that you are a valued part of the organization. Your efforts will directly impact our success. The salary range for this position is $90k - $120k.
Our Senior Estimators are involved in a range of construction services, including bidding, negotiating, and estimating construction projects, as well as:

Prepare estimates based on plans, specifications and narratives

Solicit bids from subcontractors/vendors, distribute design documents/information

Help establish base project schedule, develop project General Conditions

Create detailed owner proposal and bid presentation documents

Ensure a successful transition from preconstruction to operations

Serve as primary point of contact with design teams during the estimate and GMP process; manage RFI and clarification workflows

Lead estimate strategy meetings and define trade coverage responsibilities across the estimating team for assigned projects

Lead & develop Estimator 1/Estimator 2 positions
RESPONSIBILITIES – HARD BID
-
Lead the hard bid process to include coordinating estimators, scope coordination, and accurate competitive bids for bids $2m+

Monitor and track bid and other opportunities

Maintain the bid process, track bidders and ensure adequate coverage on all trades

Submit and process PRFI’s, manage the flow of information to subcontractors & understand the design and specifications and prepare work scopes to define bid packages

Review subcontractor bids to ensure complete coverage

Understand plans and specifications and relate them effectively to subcontractors and owners
-
Understand construction means and methods, subcontractor capabilities and building materials

Prepare subcontractor bid proposal forms and subcontractor bid recording sheets for assigned trades. Evaluate subcontractor input for scope inclusion. Identify scope gaps and overlaps and coordinate with other staff managing trades.

Drive bid day execution: coordinate estimating staffing, manage final number entry, and confirm complete trade coverage before submission

Maintain and continuously improve the company’s subcontractor and vendor qualification database.
RESPONSIBILITIES – NEGOTIATED

Oversee and coordinate the estimating team in the development of milestone budgets and GMPs

Apply knowledge of building code to identify possible errors/omissions

Develop ROM pricing promptly, utilizing maintained historic pricing information
-
Develop good working relationships with owners and architects to encourage repeat business

Perform quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate, and studies for all assigned trades and building systems

Provide pricing for value engineering, alternates, options, and special studies as required.

Ensure pricing within the estimate or GMP is complete and accurate, reflecting recent pricing data, subcontractor bids or budgets.

Participate or lead internal estimate review meetings

Support the assembly of all estimates, bids or GMP documents required by and submitted to the Owner.

Actively participate in estimate and GMP review meetings with architects, engineers, and owners and incorporate comments, feedback, and input into revised estimates or GMP’s. Help assemble revised documents for final submission.

Support the development and enhancement of owner, architect, subcontractor and vendor relations.

Analyze cost data, unit prices, general conditions and general requirements costs, and information that can be developed and used as a “rule of thumb” for all building systems estimated costs.

Provide input to constructability reviews and coordinate with the Operations Lead to ensure the constructability reviews are completed in a timely manner and incorporated into the milestone estimates, to the extent required by contract.

Prepare and present milestone estimate narratives, assumptions logs, and clarification documents to owners and design teams

Coordinate with the operations team to validate general conditions assumptions, staffing plans, and phasing impacts on cost

Mentor Estimator I and II staff; review their work products and provide structured feedback to support their professional development
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Estimating experience, construction management, or related trades.

Full-time position with expected overtime and travel as required.

Strong leadership skills with effective verbal and written communication.

High capability in construction-related software for estimating and project management.

Ability to complete accurate estimates on schedule while maintaining project goals.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred

Demonstrated experience preparing complete estimates for complex commercial projects across multiple design phases

Expert-level proficiency in takeoff and estimating platforms; working knowledge of scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project)

Strong analytical skills with ability to reconcile competing subcontractor bids and identify cost drivers across all trades.
